ABOUT RIDDELLS CREEK

Riddells Creek is a historic and scenic township in the Macedon Ranges, located approximately 48 kilometres northwest of the Melbourne CBD. It is defined by its dramatic ridge-and-valley topography, winding waterways, and a distinct "village" atmosphere that blends a relaxed country attitude with essential modern conveniences.

The town is situated on the southern foothills of Mount Macedon, providing a lush, green landscape that has long made it a popular destination for those seeking a semi-rural "tree-change" while remaining within commuting distance of the city.

The lifestyle in Riddells Creek is centered on community and the outdoors. Residents enjoy a tight-knit, friendly vibe with social life often revolving around the local shopping strip, which features the popular Riddell Creek Bakery and several independent cafes. The Riddells Creek Farmers’ Market, held on the third Saturday of each month, is a major regional highlight, offering local produce, live music, and artisanal goods. For nature enthusiasts, the Conglomerate Gully Flora Reserve offers hidden walking tracks and a seasonal waterfall, while the Walter J Smith Reserve provides a tranquil spot for picnics near the heritage-listed 1859 rail bridge - one of Victoria's earliest examples of its type.

The suburb is currently entering a period of significant urban transformation. In August 2025, the state government approved the Amess Road Precinct Structure Plan, which is set to double the size of the township by adding approximately 1,360 new homes. This project will deliver a new community centre, upgraded shared user paths, and a new roundabout at Kilmore Road and Gyro Close. To support this growth, the Riddells Creek Recreation Reserve Master Plan is also being updated, with works planned to modernize the sports pavilion, oval, and skate park to meet the demands of the expanding population.

Infrastructure and connectivity are major strengths for a rural township. Riddells Creek has its own railway station on the Bendigo line, providing a direct V/Line service to Southern Cross Station in about an hour. For motorists, the Sunbury-Riddells Creek Road and the nearby Calder Freeway offer straightforward access to Melbourne Airport and the CBD. Education is primarily anchored by Riddells Creek Primary School, while secondary students often travel to nearby Gisborne or Sunbury. The Riddells Creek Neighbourhood House also serves as a vital civic hub, offering a wide range of community programs, workshops, and social groups.

From a property perspective, Riddells Creek is an established and highly stable market, though it has seen some pricing adjustment recently due to its rapid expansion. The area maintains an exceptionally high owner-occupation rate, reflecting its status as a "forever home" destination. While the upcoming Amess Road development will introduce more diverse housing options and some affordable segments, the suburb remains a premier choice for those valuing space, privacy, and a genuine country community.
