ABOUT ALTONA MEADOWS

A hidden and undervalued gem, Altona Meadows is a quiet and leafy suburb only 5 minutes’ drive from Altona beach and 17km south-west of Melbourne’s CBD (approximately a 20-minute drive).

Altona Meadows recorded a population of 19,160 people in the 2016 census. The local council for Altona Meadows is the City of Hobsons Bay.

This is a great area people of all walks of life (singles, professionals, families with kids or retirees).

In Altona Meadows, there’s an abundance of parks, sporting facilities and it’s close to shops and quality schools and also has a newly renovated library and Central Square shopping centre.

Getting around is easy in Altona Meadows with public transport including the train line and buses. Local residents describe Altona Meadows as safe and peaceful family-friendly area.

The general consensus is that Altona Meadows is excellent value for money, being so close to Melbourne city and beach.

If you want to head out on the town, it’s a quick train ride to Yarraville or Newport, or 20 minutes into the city and for those that enjoy a surf, the surf coast is only about an hour’s drive away.

Altona Meadows is a multi-cultural area, with around half of the residents having been born in Australia. In the 2016 census, the next most common countries of birth were India, England, Malta, Vietnam and the Philippines. With just over half of the Altona Meadows residents speaking English at home.

The popular Cheetham Wetlands Reserve is located partly within the suburb of Altona Meadows, it has boardwalks traversing its network of lagoons, and is a great place for a stroll or to bird watch.
