About Kealba

Kealba is a residential suburb located approximately 15 km north‑west of Melbourne’s Central Business District, within the City of Brimbank LGA. Established in the late 1960s, its name is a blend of neighboring Keilor and St Albans.

Kealba is a small, peaceful suburb offering affordability, leafy parks, and a sense of community, all within easy reach of central Melbourne and essential facilities. It combines scenic green spaces and family‑friendly housing with practical access to schools, transport, and shopping.

History

Originally part of a large farm estate, the land was subdivided in the 1960s. Kealba Secondary College (then St Albans Park High School) opened in February 1970. Soon after, to reduce confusion with nearby St Albans, community members proposed the name “Kealba” – now the suburb’s official name.

Lifestyle & Amenities

Kealba offers a quiet, family‑oriented lifestyle in a peaceful setting. It features a small retail area, several neighborhood reserves, and generous open space - especially along the Maribyrnong River with parkland, wetlands, a bike path, and a scenic lookout.  There’s also a local pub (the Kealba Hotel), a Catholic primary school and church (dating to around 1968), a community centre, and a neighbourhood house.

While Kealba doesn’t have its own train station, residents can access transit via nearby St Albans stations, around 2–3 km away, including St Albans station and Ginifer station. Sunshine Hospital is also within reach.
